Since Gisele Bündchen and Tom Brady divorced last year, the supermodel has been spotted in Costa Rica several times with her jiujitsu instructor, Joaquim Valente. Their appearances in public and on vacation have sparked dating rumors, which were quickly shot down by reps. In a new cover interview with Vanity Fair—her first postdivorce—released Wednesday, March 22, Bündchen addressed the rumors and her relationship with Valente, who runs a martial arts academy based in Florida with his brothers.

“I think, at this point, unfortunately, because I’m divorced, I’m sure that they’re going to try to attach me to anything,” Bündchen said of the rumors. “I’m so grateful to know all of [the Valente brothers], because not only have they helped me and helped my kids, but they have become great friends, and Joaquim especially. He’s our teacher and, most importantly, he’s a person that I admire and that I trust. It’s so good to have that kind of energy, to have my kids around that type of energy.”

Gisele Bündchen and Valente were most recently spotted on a walk in Costa Rica earlier this month. Valente accompanied Bündchen on two other trips to Costa Rica since her divorce from Brady was announced. In November 2022 just two weeks after the divorce went public, Valente joined Bündchen and her children on a trip. They were seen in Costa Rica together in January, too. Following their trip in November 2022, a source told People, “[Joaquim] and his two brothers are Gisele and the kids’ martial arts teachers. They are not dating.”

Then, in January, a source told People, “Gisele adores and trusts [Joaquim] and has been spending a lot of time with him, but I don’t think it’s a traditional dating scenario. They have a deep personal relationship, and he is a teacher to her and the kids. Whether or not it will ever become more than that rests on the table.”
