In the TikTok and DeuxMoi era, unsubstantiated celebrity gossip travels faster and further than ever before. The latest celebrities to be caught up in a tidal wave of cheating rumors: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Sam Taylor-Johnson, and Joey King. While Hollywood infidelity is hardly shocking news, the reactions to this particular conspiracy theory is anything but ordinary.

For some background, Aaron has been married to Sam since 2012. The couple met when the 32-year-old Kick-Ass star played a young John Lennon in the 55-year-old director’s film Nowhere Boy in 2008. He was reportedly 18 years old at the time, while she was a 42-year-old mother of two. In a rare joint interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2019, the pair claimed that there was “no funny business at all” during filming.

“As soon as we finished [filming], he told me he was going to marry me. We had never been on a date, or even kissed,” Sam told the publication, with Aaron adding that he proposed in 2009, “exactly one year to the minute” after they met.

While Aaron is a stepparent to Sam’s eldest daughters, 25-year-old Anjelica Jopling and 17-year-old Jessie Phoenix Jopling, they also have two children: 12-year-old Wylda Rae and 11-year-old Romy Hero. Given Aaron and Sam’s 23-year age gap, the actor is closer in age to Wylda than to his wife.

For years, the notoriously private couple have been subject to criticism over their age gap as well as the power dynamics involved in their early relationship. “I don’t engage with [talk about the age gap],” AJT told Glamour UK in 2015. “At an early age when I saw articles, it just fucked me up…. What does it even fucking matter about our age? I never noticed it when we fell in love with each other.”
