Personally, I’m here for the wedding dress fashion show and Bergen’s character getting busy in a water taxi. And while the whole thing feels a bit like 80 for Brady part two, I say bring it on.
In case you missed it, the first teaser trailer originally dropped on Monday, December 19, as an early holiday treat. The trailer teases a girls trip to Italy, where everyone in modern TV and film, from this to The White Lotus, seems to be going these days. The trailer, set to a cover of “Mambo Italiano,” also teases a great time at the cinema with some incredible situational comedy, including Jane Fonda confusing a hot Italian cop for a stripper. Focus Features dropped the first picture online back in May. Check it out below:
When does it come out?
On July 28, 2022, Focus Features announced the release date, which couldn’t come at a more perfect time: Mother’s Day weekend 2023. So mark Friday, May 12, on your calendar now.
Per the press release from Focus Features to Glamour, “The highly anticipated sequel, starring returning icons Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen alongside Andy Garcia, Don Johnson, and Craig T. Nelson, Giancarlo Giannini, Hugh Quarshie, and Vincent Riotta, follows our four best friends as they take their book club to Italy for the fun girls trip they never had. When things go off the rails and secrets are revealed, their relaxing vacation turns into a once-in-a-lifetime cross-country adventure.” Director Bill Holderman and cowriter Erin Simms (who wrote this great essay for us in 2018 about how they were told nobody wanted to see a movie about four women over 60) are once again directing, writing, and producing.
