This just in: Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston are slated to star in a body-swap comedy for Amazon from the writer-director of Hulu’s Palm Springs, Deadline reports. There aren’t yet many details about the film—including a title or a release date—but the cast and concept alone are enough to have us all in.
Here’s everything we know so far about the Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston body swap comedy:
Who’s in it: Julia Roberts, fresh off a return to her rom-com roots in 2022’s Ticket to Paradise, and Jennifer Aniston will star in the currently untitled comedy. In 2016 Roberts and Aniston both appeared in the film Mother’s Day. Aniston told Entertainment Tonight at the film’s LA premiere that acting alongside Roberts was intimidating. “Because it’s Julia Roberts! Oh my gosh!” she said. “It’s just a different thing when you get to work with them and then you’re doing what you both do, together. I even flubbed in the first take and called her Julia!”
Who’s behind it: Max Barbakow, who wrote and directed the beloved 2020 Hulu film Palm Springs, wrote and will direct the untitled body-swap comedy. Palm Springs, which starred Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, blended the sci-fi and rom-com genres, so expect Barbakow’s next film to be a slightly dark, unique twist on the body swap movie. Deadline reports that Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, is producing, along with Roberts‘s company, Red Om Films, and Aniston’s company, Echo Films.
Where: Amazon. Deadline reported that Amazon Studios won a “heated” auction for the rights to the film. Considering Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston are such big stars, the film will likely have a theatrical release before becoming available to stream on Amazon Prime.
