Scream VI: Everything We Know About the Upcoming Slasher

Just like Ghostface, Hayden Panettiere is back. Yep, Kirby from Scre4m returns in the latest installment of this long-running slasher franchise, which sets the action not in Woodsboro but in New York City. Spooooky. Here’s everything we know about the flick:

Hayden is back; Neve is out.

Courteney Cox will reprise her role as crime reporter Gale Weathers, and much of the cast of 2022’s Scream returns, including Wednesday star Jenna Ortega and In the Heights’ Melissa Barrera.

Kirby Reed, played by Hayden Panettiere, is coming back to the franchise after being left for dead at the end of Scream 4. 

“She’s come a long way,” Panettiere told Entertainment Weekly of her character. “What happened to her has obviously impacted her life, and it sends her in a certain direction, but she’s still the same old Kirby at the heart of it. She’s just a little older, a little wiser, but just as spitfire-y, and snarky, and all that good stuff.”

Sidney Prescott, however, won’t be making an appearance (though she is reportedly referenced in the script). In June 2022, Neve Campbell, the ultimate Final Girl of the franchise, revealed that she felt undervalued by her offer and believed that, had a male actor been in her situation, he would not have been low-balled. “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream,” she said in a statement. “I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” She elaborated on her feelings later to People, saying, “I honestly don’t believe that, if I were a man and had done five installments of a huge blockbuster franchise over 25 years, the number that I was offered would be the number that would be offered to a man.”

There are new faces too.

Tony Revolori, Samara Weaving, and Dermot Mulroney are joining the cast.

The setting is now NYC.

If you can survive there, you can survive anywhere? While the previous installments took place in and around the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, and later in Los Angeles, this time the action is headed to the East Coast, as characters attempt to start over in college.
